Calculating our products’ energy use and enabling green building construction. We publish the environmental impact of KONE products and contribute to developing global energy management standards.
Considering the environment when installing new equipment. Our well planned and efficient installation processes minimize the adverse environmental impacts of installation work, and our systems ensure we reduce our chemical use and handle waste efficiently on site.
Using smart technologies and a green vehicle fleet to minimize emissions and maximize efficiency. Remote monitoring solutions reduce unnecessary technician callouts. By carrying optimized spare part stocks in our vehicles we reduce warehouse visits, further decreasing emissions.
Applying a range of solutions to make the biggest difference with the lowest possible environmental impact. Our modernization solutions range from retrofitting LED lights to a completely new elevator with energy regeneration technology.
KONE has been measuring its operational carbon footprint since 2008, and our objective is to reduce our carbon footprint relative to net sales by 3% annually.
Logistics operations account for over 50% of KONE’s carbon footprint. We use distribution models that take eco-efficiency into account and pay special attention to reducing the impact of transportation through route and shipment optimization, as well as through careful analysis of alternative transportation models.
With a total size of approximately 19,000 vehicles, our car fleet accounts for more than one third of KONE’s carbon footprint. We continuously search for new and innovative ways to reduce the carbon footprint of our vehicle fleet, for example by piloting electric vehicles and biofuels as well as by alternative means of mobility.
KONE operates in over 1,000 facilities globally, including office spaces and installation and service operation hubs. Our goal is to reduce the facility-related carbon footprint by 15% by 2022 compared to 2017 and increase the share of green electricity to a minimum of 50% of all electricity consumption by 2021.
At KONE, our contribution to a circular economy starts with our focus on reducing the materials, energy and other resources used in our solutions and operations. By providing customers with reliable and energy-efficient equipment that has a lifetime of over 25 years, KONE has an important role in keeping resources in valuable use for as long as possible.
